All Blacks tip more woe for Wallabies
Related coverage
The triumphant All Blacks believe the wounded Wallabies will be ripe for the picking in Rosario if Argentina play with the same adventure that backfired against them on the weekend.
New Zealand coach Steve Hansen urged the Pumas to continue with their expansive, attacking approach as they hope to score a maiden Rugby Championship win over Australia in their final-round match on Sunday morning (AEST).
Argentina were blown out of the water 54-15 as the all-conquering All Blacks notched up a 15th straight Test win.
But the Pumas did rattle the world champions early by keeping the ball in hand and playing with width.
Also, injury-riddled Australia arrived in Argentina late on Sunday (local time) following a long plane ride from South Africa where they were thumped 31-8.
While Boks coach Heyneke Meyer predicted the Wallabies were facing an ambush, Hansen said the Pumas’ biggest challenge was backing their attacking instincts and keeping their confidence.
Argentina did lead Australia 19-6 midway through their previous match on the Gold Coast and the Wallabies have since lost Berrick Barnes (lung), Adam Ashley-Cooper (concussion) and Quade Cooper (knee) to injury and also have Radike Samo (shoulder), Digby Ioane (knee) and Tatafu Polota-Nau (head, shoulder) in doubt.
“I think they will be playing an Australian side that will be looking at itself a wee bit and when that happens you have to question how much confidence the Australians will come with,” Hansen said.
“The big question is how much the Pumas react to (the All Blacks loss). I thought they played pretty well but yet the scoreboard they didn’t.
“I think if they can master that mentally, then I think they have a real show of beating Australia here.
“They showed they were good enough to beat them in Australia.”
New Zealand No.8 Kieran Read agreed that the final match in Rosario was the fired-up Pumas’ best chance for success.
“They definitely played a lot with the ball (in La Plata) and I think if they continue to do what they’re doing, then they will get there at some point and I think they’re as good a chance as any next week,” said Read.
While the All Blacks (21 points) will be hoping to edge to one victory of their record 17-match winning streak when they face the Springboks (12) in Johannesburg, the Wallabies (8) can still finish second in the tournament with a big win over the Pumas (3).
Equally, the Wallabies could also still finish equal-last on the points table if the Pumas score a bonus-point win.
Australia have added Queensland Reds utility back Luke Morahan, who is in line to start at fullback, and Melbourne Rebels lock Cadeyrn Neville to their bruised and battered squad.

It is quite obvious that certain All Blacks, upon journalastic questioning, have only stated that this is Argentina’s best chance for a major scalp, being at home and at the time of print, a query whether Australia will actually have 22 players available, and possibly barely 15.
What is really a shame on Australian supporters, is not getting behind what is left of your team and actually supporting them!!!!!
But then most Australian so called supporters, support winners only, which actually precludes 95% of their representation internationally.

Naah, GO WALLABIES. My heart will always be with the WB, win, lose or draw. Not too keen on the coach though, bring in an Aussie, forget Jake White his heart will never be in it, not really, it’s about him and SA not Aus and SA. You have to live and breath Aus. After living 17 years in Southern Africa I couldn’t support anybody but Aus, not in my heart, not really, my husband is South African., difficult! Just my opinion, don’t shoot me down. Mickey seems to be doing ok but he did say that he thought SA were the strongest team (all round) in the t20 World Cup, doesn’t do it for me, Aus, are always the best for me… even if they’re not, no question.

i agree hardData – i feel i’m supporting the wb’s more than the aussies. i thought wb’s showed a lot of heart. i reckon aus are more dangerous now than as they have their backs to the wall with nothing to lose.

Hard Data, I agree. Hansen’s comments were restrained and reasonable, and the headline makes them seem stronger than they actually were.

I’ll be at Rosario with my Wallaby “yellow” on!!
It would be great to see them get up, but at least if they don’t it will surely be the final nail in the Deans coffin.

I for one will always support the Wallabies. Always did & always will.
They are my team, representing my country. I’ll never turn my back on them.

I’m sure supporters would get behind there team alot more if the team was actually playing to the best of their ability and giving it everything. Most of them look like they would rather be on vacation. You can’t blame supporters in a situation like that.

Should WB lose, Deans record will read:
- Loss to Samoa
- Loss to Ireland
- Loss to Scotland
- Loss to Argentina
That’s got be worth a 3yr contract extension.

IMO it is hard to see the Wallabies winning in Argentina especially with all the injuries they have and the dysfunction that appears to be within the Wallabies camp at the moment. I’m an ABs supporter but am not enjoying this decline of the Wallabies, especially when I think back to the great Wallabies of old – very sad! KIA KAHA (be strong) COME ON WALLABIES PROVE THEM ALL WRONG AND WIN!!!

Has there ever been a bigger floated than Hansen? He may regret it if rivals teams get their act together.

Hansen’s got a 100% record so far, and he was asked a question which he is very qualified to answer having just experienced how the Pumas played and after having watched the Wallabies lose. On the basis of how the Pumas played against the ABs versus how the Wallabies fared, Hansen had legitimate grounds for his comment.
Or would you rather he said something which he did not believe? Some of you Wallaby supporters need to get a life and stop seeing criticism behind every shadow.
As for the “He may regret it if rivals teams get their act together.”, that’s a waste of space stating the bleeding obvious: EVERY opponent faced by the ABs has one objective and that’s to beat them, just as every losing team is full of regrets!!

Dead right!
Personally speaking I couldn’t give a flying frig what Hansen or any other enemy coach says about MY team.
Facts are IF we’re good enough we will win and IF the Pumas are better they will win. That’s how it is and should be.
What I do know is that they boys will give it all they have got. My job is simple, ‘Support Them’.

Give it up KPM.
Hansen ‘s was a generic answer at best. What would you have preferred he said?
I reckon the Pumas have got a great chance in Rosario if they can dominate up front and release their backs in a more structured fashion than they did against the All Blacks where they attempted to run from everywhere.
It’s your perogative to dislike him but be reasonable; even you must fear the Wallabies might lose this weekend.
Ps. Have you changed your mind about Cory Jane after reviewing the All Blacks game?

; Rosario is a fortress to the Pumas insofar as international results-in-their-favour go…… and thus I agree with Steve Hansen that Argentina will/should win. Steve has never been backward in giving another team a light-hearted DIG, it’s just thin-skinned Ockers like KPM that bite every time
…………. say your prayers boyos, because they’re going to be flying home on Sunday wagging their tails behind them ( BIG

Argentina flogged by the ABs with their best team on the park and at home. Wallabies flogged by the Boks with a team that is far from best available and at a fortress. Wallabies will struggle to field a quality side but there will be passion in the Aussie performance and that might be more than enough to get the win. Still believe Wallabies will win but it will be close.

I tend to agree, MOC. Hansen kept it within bounds. The fact is Argentina cannot be written off lightly. They have beaten England, France and South Africa in recent years, and there seems to have been a big boost in popularity of rugby there – the stadium will be packed with enthusiastic fans.

I don’t think the wallabies are going to lose on the weekend, Argentina has fronted up with their forwards in the competition, but their backs have struggled to beat the SH defences.
I think the same will apply to this weekend.
