Adelaide United will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the A-League season when they host Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium this afternoon. We’ll have live scores from 5.30pm AEDT.
Adelaide came crashing back to earth somewhat last weekend in an uninspiring 2-1 loss to bitter rivals Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium.
It has undoubtedly been a good start for John Kosmina’s men after opening the season with wins against Newcastle and Western Sydney, but the even nature of the competition means things can change pretty quickly.
Things won’t be any easier this afternoon. Wellington travel across having picked up a win and two draws from their opening three, and looked good in their 1-1 draw against the Roar last weekend.
This might just be the best Wellington Phoenix side we have seen in the A-League, and they’ll get another chance to underline their credentials this afternoon.
The big question mark with the black and yellow has always been their away form. Travelling with a side decimated by international duty, the Phoenix dug in admirably at AAMI Park against the Heart a fortnight ago and Ricki Herbert will be hoping for a similiar effort here.
The Reds will be aided by the return of hitmen Sergio van Dijk and Bruce Djite, while for the Phoenix Andrew Durante will return to partner Ben Sigmund at the heart of their defence.
This one could go either way. Despite last weekend, Adelaide United have looked reasonably good and could get the job done here, but if the Phoenix turn up to play they might very well leave with some points.

That said, Gillett was lagging well behind, needed something from his AR, who had the sun in his eyes. Hesitate to say it but I think young Gillett needs to get further forwards more often.

I feel sorry for Ben Sigmund! Heck, Jeronimo made plenty of that little tap from Benny Boy and fell to earth like a pack of spuds. Red card to Ben.

Nathan of Perth said | 7:14pm | Report comment
Miiiight have been an ankle tap, but…
Mhmm… Well, some talking points for the week. Gillett has an interesting tendency to see the worst case situation in clutch moments.

No ankle tap what so ever. Ben tapped JN on the shoulder (well just a slight tug
)

Nathan of Perth said | 7:09pm | Report comment
How can you give a red when the Adelaide player was never in possession !?
7:14pm
Stevo said | 7:14pm | Report comment
Well JN was kinda onto the ball and Ben just made sure he never got there but boy did JN make a meal of it.

Suspect that AR was unsighted due to played on his near quadrant.

Nathan of Perth said | 7:02pm | Report comment
Yep, far right player for Adelaide probably interfered with the ARs sight on that one. Some good luck falls for the Reds today.

AU find a way to goal by putting the ball into the mixer and out it pops to Jeronimo who calmly slots it home. Nice one! 1:1
