Adrian Anderson to leave the AFL

The AFL have hastily arranged a press conference at 12:15pm ADST to announce that Adrian Anderson, the AFL’s football operations boss, will depart the organisation after nine years. We’ll live stream the press conference as it goes to air.

Speculation has erupted at where Anderson will proceed next. It is not known if this will be announced during the early afternoon press conference.

Anderson has been CEO Andrew Demetriou’s right-hand man during his time with the AFL, and leaves as part of a planned departure.

Anderson, 40, restructured the game’s judiciary process for on-field incidents, established the AFL’s integrity unit and was a key player in implementing rule changes to the game.

Fairfax Media is reporting that Anderson is understood to have reached his decision to leave after lengthy conversations with a number of commissioners, including AFl chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and Demetriou.

He is believed to have received strong interest from other sports and is not expected to remain at the AFL beyond Christmas.
