The Sydney Sixers need a win in their last round-robin match against the Melbourne Renegades to keep their semi-final hopes alive this season when the two teams meet at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

We’ll bring you the live scores of the action throughout this game, with the match starting at 7 pm AEDT.

It has been a rather poor season for the Sixers; currently they are at the back-end of the points table with only an outside chance of making it to the last four as one of the two remaining slots.

For starters, they need to win this game and do that convincingly. That against a team which will end the engagements at the top of the table and have been in supreme form all season, will be a difficult exercise by itself.

But even if the Sixers win, they will only end up tying on points with three other teams, all of who have a game in hand.

The magnitude of the task on hand can be seen from the fact that not only do the defending champions need a win here, but they also need Brisbane to then beat Hobart by a margin that will not put the Heat too far ahead of Sixers on net run-rate. Semi-final qualification cannot get tougher for the Sixers.

Sixers have been far too inconsistent in both their departments, batting and bowling. The loss of Mitchell Starc to international commitments and Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins to injuries hasn’t helped, leaving Brett Lee as their sole wrecker-in-chief.

The good news, however, is that Hazlewood returned from his fitness issues last game and off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake’s first BBL game proved to be a good one for the side.

The Renegades were the first side to qualify for the semi-finals and will hope to keep their foot on the gas. While they will host their semi-final, they will want to enter the knock-out stage with a victory under their belt and therefore, may not try too many different things.

Captain Aaron Finch continues to lead the top run-getters’ chart while Ben Rohrer and Tom Cooper have both chipped in with vital contributions.

Marlon Samuels has been ruled out of the tournament though with an eye injury that he suffered in their previous, ill-tempered game against the Melbourne Stars and his bowling will be missed more than his batting.

That said, with Aaron O’Brien and Muthiah Muralitharan around, things could get tight with the bat for the Sixers.

We will bring you the live coverage throughout the game from the SCG in Sydney and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds.
