France international prop David Attoub’s chances of making the squad for June’s tour of New Zealand suffered a serious blow as he told AFP Saturday he looked set to be out till possibly the beginning of June.

The 31-year-old Stade Francais player – capped four times – suffered broken bones in his right foot in a road accident involving his scooter on Thursday.

“I will be in plaster and then undergo physio for between four to six weeks,” he told AFP.

“I hope to be back playing in two and a half months maximum.”

It is just the latest blow of many in the prop’s career and he said he would be fortunate to get on the tour, where the French play world champions All Blacks – who beat them 8-7 in the 2011 final – in three tests on June, 8, 15 and 22.

“I am just another addition to the list of road accident victims,” he joked.

“It is my curse not to have any luck, it is the way it is, it is annoying for the club who have major matches to come and for my chances of making the French squad.

“I think that will be a tight deadline to make, but we will see.”

Attoub’s career has been bedevilled by injuries including contracting the sometimes fatal superbug – staphylococcus aureus – in a Romanian hospital on the 2006 tour when he made his international debut.

He also received a 70 week suspension – reduced to 52 weeks on appeal – in 2009 from the European Cup organisers for gouging Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris, the length of the suspension being because he was a repeat offender.
