Round six of the 2013 Super Rugby season sees a showdown between South African powerhouse the Sharks and relative newcomers Melbourne Rebels at Kings Park. We’ll have live scores and commentary from 2.05am AEDT.
The Sharks have been solid so far this season, chalking up victories over the Cheetahs, Stormers and Southern Kings while only tasting defeat against the unbeaten Brumbies.
While the Sharks boast the likes of Springbok backs Lwaza Mvovo, Odwa Undangane and Patrick Lambie, the side have struggled for tries this season and have often fallen victim to their own overcomplications on the field.
Coming off the 29-10 loss to the Brumbies, Sharks management are asking the players to deliver ‘a performance we can be proud of’.
Whether this will yield more five-pointers or not we will only learn once the first whistle blows.
Melbourne Rebels have only one win to their name so far this season, a round one defeat of a lacklustre Western Force outfit.
While the Rebels have seen the return from injury of James O’Connor they have not been able to convert their potential on paper into success on the field.
This week should see the return of captain Gareth Delve and one of the main finishers for the Rebels, NRL convert and two-time Wallaby Cooper Vuna.
While the Rebels haven’t been firing on all cylinders this season the will be hoping to get back on track with a win over the Sharks, but this will be no mean feat at a packed Kings Park against a Sharks side looking for a big win with lots of tries.
I can’t see the Rebels pack, even with the hopeful return of Delve, overcoming the Sharks forwards who will look to destroy the Australian outfit at the breakdown and unleash their flying backs out wide.
Sorry Melbourne fans but I have the Sharks winning this one by more than seven.
