Australia’s embarrassing and disgraceful tour of India ended with another hiding in the fourth Test. Coming home to Australia will be Australia’s worst ever team since 1877.

These are the facts about this team. It’s the worst Australian touring team in over 40 years – since Bill Lawry’s side got hammered 4-0 in South Africa.

It’s the worst Australian team since Charles Bannerman opened the batting for Australia about 140 years ago and Shane Watson eclipses Kim Hughes as Australia’s worst ever captain.

On this poor excuse for a captain. Promoting Maxwell to opener in the second innings, after he had failed in his three previous innings’ as a Test batsman, screamed of amateur hour. It looked no different to park cricket, when you run out of ideas so you just give someone a go and hope for the best.

All of the planning and professionalism that comes with sport these days has amounted to moving a bloke who has shown nothing as a Test batsman to opener to take on India on a tough wicket.

Is that the best Mickey Arthur and Shane Watson could come up with? What a disgrace.

There has been too much talk and focus on the Ashes during this tour. The time to worry about the Ashes is still a month away.

The lessons from this disgraceful tour need to be learnt first.
