Bayern Munich eyes off the treble

The most amazing feeling for any top side in Europe is winning the treble.

Manchester United did it in the most fashionable style in 1999 when they won the English Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League (scoring two late goals in the stoppage time).

Many teams have tasted similar success but we haven’t seen this phenomenon since Barcelona produced it last in 2009.

The only four remaining teams in Europe for the most coveted prize have a big problem. Though Barcelona look firm favourites to win the Spanish La Liga, they cannot win the treble because they are out of the Copa del Rey.

Borussia Dortmund can only win two titles, because they have lost the German Bundesliga to Bayern. Real Madrid are still a mathematical chance of the treble but, with Barcelona 13 points clear in La Liga with six matches to play, it’s highly unlikely.

However we do have one team who can possibly have a treble winning season.

Bayern Munich have already won The German Bundesliga, they are in the finals of The German Cup scheduled to take place next month and are also in the race to win The Champions League.

With one guaranteed title, they have a chance for the treble.

Mario Mandzukic has been their top scorer this season, with 21 goals, and Tomas Muller with five in Champions League.

Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery and Mario Gomez have been in sublime form. Bastian Schweingsteiger has been good as always and even Claudio Pizzaro has scored coming from the bench.

Bayern Munich have only lost one league match this season and scored 98 league goals. They have lost two matches in Europe only because they rested their key players in non-important games against Bate Borisov and Arsenal.

Having conceded only 25 goals throughout this season shows this side is a perfect blend of defence and attack.

Barcelona will be their toughest challenge so far and if they can pass this acid test, the finals on May 25 will be D-Day.

Bayern are known to lose major finals. They lost to Chelsea in the Champions League last season and came short against Inter Milan in 2010.

Football doesn’t go by luck all the time and if someone is arguably the best in the world, fortune will favour them. Bayern Munich has a quality squad which can see them win all the major three competitions this season.

With a great bench, incredible goal scoring players, the most reliable last line and the chief architect Jupp Heynckes, can Bayern Munich win the treble this season?
