Top ten players David Ferrer and Juan Martin del Potro clash tonight for the right to appear in their first ever Wimbledon semi-final. Join us for live scores from 10.00pm AEST.

After making the French Open final for the first time in his career just week ago, Ferrer continues to play career best tennis despite being over 30 years of age.

Regardless of tonight’s result, Ferrer will move up to third on the ATP tour rankings, thus solidifying his status as one of the game’s most elite players.

If his recent results are anything to go by, Ferrer is constantly making the semi-finals of grand slam events and it really takes the very best players on tour to defeat him.

At the Australian and French Open this year, Ferrer made the semi-final and final respectively, losing to eventual champions Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

While Ferrer does struggle to defeat the top four ranked players on the ATP tour, he has become a master of defeating players below him in the rankings.

While Del Potro certainly possesses the firepower to beat anyone on his day, he will have to produce his best performance of the season to oust an opponent he has struggled to get the better of in his career.

Despite beating Andreas Seppi in straight sets in the fourth round, Del Potro comes into the quarter-final against Ferrer with a knee complaint, and that may prove to be his undoing tonight.

Ferrer outplayed Del Potro in the fourth round of last year’s Wimbledon Championships as he constantly moved the Argentine around the court.

Although he moves well for a tall player, the last thing Del Potro needs is to get involved in an endurance contest against Ferrer.

Ferrer plays with terrific intensity and will wear Del Potro down if the Argentine is forced to play long rallies.

If the Argentine is to cause the upset, he will have to unleash all his firepower off the forehand and backhand side.

On his day, Del Potro is probably the hardest hitter of the ball on the ATP tour and possesses the power to overwhelm any player.

Despite his struggle with injuries and illness this year, Del Potro has provided samples of his very best form this season when he made the final at Indian Wells.

In that tournament, Del Potro managed to defeat both Andy Murray and Djokovic in consecutive matches before going down to Nadal in a tight three setter.

If Del Potro can play with that sort of intensity, then the former US Open champion should be favoured to win tonight.

Anything less than his best however and it will be Ferrer who progresses to the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Ferrer in four sets.
