After last week’s article 10 reasons the Eels will beat the Tigers the Parramatta club snapped a 10-week losing streak with a 26-22 victory over their west-Sydney rivals.
Before this week’s clash with the Broncos, we take a look at five reasons the Eels can win two in a row for the first time this year. And hopefully, for all Parra supporters, the trick will work again.
The Broncos are favourites, and deservedly so, but do the Eels have a chance of causing a spectacular upset? Here are five reasons they just might.
1. Unchanged 17
The Eels have an unchanged 17 from last round’s victory over the Tigers. This is always a good confidence boost and can help players carry form through from one match to the next.
The Eels may not have a lot of form, but their 26-22 victory over the Tigers will give the blue-and-gold some much-needed confidence.
2. The Eels won last time
Parramatta defeated Brisbane in a narrow 19-18 in Round 9 earlier this year. Hayne, who plays his second match after returning from injury was influential in the Eels’ victory last time.
3. Hodges is out for the Broncos
Brisbane has lost key man Justin Hodges, who is expected to be out for the remainder of the season due to an Achilles tendon injury.
4. Hayne at five-eighth
Co-captain Jarryd Hayne returned last week in the unusual position of five-eight and was spectacular for the Eels.
Hayne proved against the Broncos in Round 9 that he can make the difference between the two sides, and if he handles the ball more at five-eighth then he can turn the match in the Eels favour again.
5. Mullaney’s confidence boost
Fill-in fullback Jake Mullaney received a confidence boost when he still started for the Eels despite the return of regular fullback Hayne. This confidence was on display in his performance against the Tigers.
Mullaney was excellent in attack against the Tigers, with one try and one try assist. If Mullaney and the Eels continue to attack that well and sharpen up in defence they just might be able to set a new 2013 winning streak record for themselves.
