'Champagne rugby league': Broncos and Cowboys trade gorgeous tries - in torrential rain!
The Broncos and Cowboys were playing dry-weather footy in these tries! Brisbane led 20-12 at half-time.
After toughing out a narrow victory over the Dragons last weekend the Brisbane Broncos play host to a Parramatta Eels side with nothing to lose. Join us for live scores from 7.30pm AEST.
Whilst Brisbane remains a long shot to take part in finals action this season, where’s there’s life there’s hope and Anthony Griffin’s men will be hoping to build on an impressive month of football.
Their job has been made significantly more difficult however with the loss of star centre Justin Hodges for the season, who suffered a nasty Achilles injury in their two point win over St George Illawarra.
The Eels last week were able to snap a ten match losing streak with a win over the struggling Tigers, but will be under no illusions that defeating a desperate Brisbane team on their own turf will be a much tougher assignment.
With no love lost between these two teams though Parramatta would love to spoil the party for Brisbane and at the same time put a good end onto what has been a difficult season.
Prediction
The Eels moved their most potent attacking weapon Jarryd Hayne to five-eighth in a late switch last week, a move that paid dividends with an improved performance in attack.
Look for them to chance their arm again tonight by shifting the ball wide early in attempt to take advantage of Brisbane’s reshuffled backline.
For the Broncos it will all be about ensuring that they can play consistently good football for the full eighty minutes.
Brisbane’s season almost came crushing to a halt last week thanks to some poor lapses in concentration against a weakened Dragons side, something coach Griffin would have no doubt reminded them of throughout the week.
With so much at stake and Parramatta’s shocking away record it’s hard to see anything other than a victory for the Broncos this evening.
Brisbane by ten.
