The 2013 Vuelta a Espana resumes with a stage that looks set to be decided by a breakaway with an opportunity for the Maillot Rojo to change shoulders. Join us for live updates from 12.00am AEST.

With 40 kilometres of the stage remaining the peloton shall be required to climb two categorised and three uncategorised climbs.

With an almost constant succession of climbs, four in total, preceding the Alto del Naranco, featuring the climbs of the Alto de San Emiliano and Alto de la Manzaneda.

The Alto del Naranco, on which Stage 19 shall finish, measures 5.7 kilometers in length. Whilst her slopes are calculated to be at an average gradient of 4.2%. However, my own calculations had the average gradient at 6%.

With a steep section of 10% arrives with about three kilometres remaining, followed by an average gradient of 6.5% until the finishing line.

With the breakaway favoured to steal the stage victory, I regrettably cannot predict a stage victory for hometown hero Sammy Sanchez.

The Asturian rider would be too great a threat to be involved in the breakaway, and it would require a massive chase effort to defeat the breakaway.

With a very challenging Stage 20 just the day after, featuring the infamous Alto de L’Angrilu, the General Classification riders will probably keep their powder dry.

However, with Chris Horner of Radioshack-Leopard just three seconds off the Maillot Rojo he may attack.

We should be set for yet another exciting battle between the breakaway, and potentially the General Classification.

So prepare the caffeine and steady yourself for yet another exciting stage of la Vuelta a Espana. Remember to join us from 12.00am AEST for live updates.
