Hawthorn have been given until Wednesday morning to decide if they’ll challenge the three-game AFL ban offered to Brian Lake and the one-match suspension of Cyril Rioli.

Fullback Lake would risk an extra game if he challenged a striking charge for elbowing Michael Walters in last week’s grand final.

Small forward Rioli would also risk an extra match by contesting his rough conduct charge for a chicken wing tackle on Michael Barlow.

Fremantle’s Nick Suban has pleaded guilty on Tuesday night to making unreasonable contact to Sam Mitchell and has been banned for one match by the tribunal.

Suban’s case was referred directly to the tribunal who imposed a 150-point penalty.

“It was an unsightly act and a regrettable act but not one that seems on the vision to have any malice or potential for harm,” legal counsel Jeff Gleeson SC told the tribunal hearing.

“There’s no indication that the player was scratched or torn at the face.”

Vision of the incident showed Suban and Mitchell on the ground as Suban grabbed Mitchell by the left cheek.

Suban appeared via a video link in Perth and said he had no recollection of the incident which occurred in the first quarter of Saturday’s grand final won by Hawthorn at the MCG.

“Looking at the vision, I’d like to apologise to Sam Mitchell,” Suban said.
