Melbourne Cup 2013: Who won, who came last
One of Australia’s most famous trainer, Waterhouse had never claimed Australia’s richest race before today.
Fiorente ($7 favourite) loomed large at the top of the Flemington straight, before collaring Red Cadeaux and powering to victory inside the final 200m.
It was Oliver’s 98th Group 1 victory and third Melbourne Cup after first winning the Cup in 1995 with Doriemus and the 2002 edition with Media Puzzle.
Simenon finished fourth, while Verema appeared to break down at the 2000m mark and finished last.
