Sydney plastic surgeon Darryl Hodgkinson’s Victoire has been declared the Sydney to Hobart’s overall winner.

The 15-metre boat had sat top of the standings for much of the time since its arrival, ninth across the line, at Constitution Dock at 8am on Sunday morning (AEDT).

Easing wind conditions knocked its rivals out of contention on Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Main challenger Wild Rose needed to arrive by 4am but was still at sea and expected to finish at around midday on Monday.

Cookson 50 Victoire, previously known as Jazz, came second overall in 2010 and fourth in 2011.

Thirty-eight boats had finished on Monday morning with 46 still racing and 10 retired.

Winds have eased from gales to 15-knot northwesterlies on the Tasmanian coast but will could reach 25-30 knots later on Monday.

Light winds prevailed on the River Derwent, meaning boats were needing to tack to the finishing line.
