Melbourne Victory need a win at home against Yokohama F. Marinos if they are to keep their Asian Champions League destiny in their own hands. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEDT.
The Victory currently sit third in their group with only a point to show for their efforts thus far.
Melbourne let slip a one nil lead against Jeonbuk Hyundai last week but still managed to rescue a 2-2 draw when another defeat was well and truly on the cards.
Jeonbuk managed to hit the lead heading into the last eight minutes of the match but a late Barbarouses equaliser secured a share of the spoils for Victory.
Thankfully, Melbourne do approach tonight’s ACL match against Yokohama with winning form after defeating Perth Glory 2-1 away from home in the A-League.
The win against Perth sees Victory climb to second spot on the A-League ladder, so confidence should be sky high for Melbourne after last week’s win against the Glory.
If recent matches are anything to go by, the Victory should fancy their chances of beating Yokohama tonight.
Recent wins for the Mariners and Wanderers in the ACL show that the gap in quality between the A-League and J-League is closing.
A win tonight for the Victory will continue to help promote the A-League as one of the best football leagues throughout Asia.
Given that they are at home, the Victory really should be targeting a win tonight if they hope to set a decent platform for ACL success.
Victory stars such as Gui Finkler, Archie Thompson and Tom Rogic will all have to be heavily involved tonight if Melbourne hopes to trouble Yokohama.
If Victory’s key attacking players do fire tonight, then Melbourne should produce enough attacking quality to earn a much needed win.
Victory to win 2-0.
