The North Queensland Cowboys host the New Zealand Warriors at Willows Sports Complex on Saturday evening, with both teams coming off disappointing loses in the second round.

Results have not made for pretty reading of late for the New Zealand Warriors. But it’s nothing compared to their record at Townsville.

After promising so much at the Auckland Nines, the Warriors have been a shell of their former selves in opening losses to Parramatta – yep, Parramatta – and the Dragons, conceding 68 points.

And history shows they may be in for yet another week of pain.

The New Zealand franchise has not savoured victory in north Queensland since April 6, 2002 – a string of eight straight losses in Townsville.

That record does not look like being broken against a Cowboys side keen to make up for a last round loss to Broncos by notching a sixth straight home win.

Key: How will the Warriors pack stand up against the likes of Kangaroos props James Tamou and Matt Scott, and giant teammates Jason Taumalolo, Gavin Cooper and Tariq Sims?

Tip: Cowboys

Can the Cowboys bounce back from their loss last week in the Queensland derby?

Or will the Warriors manage to break their stretch of poor form in Townsville?
