Roar Guru
It is back-to-back losses for the Roosters following this match. For the second time in as many matches, they have been beaten by a team that managed to outmuscle them. The Roosters have a lot to improve on if they want to make the eight, let alone defend their title.
The Bulldogs on the other hand were tough as nails tonight and are back in a big way now. Reynolds produced a try-saver on Daniel Tupou early in the second half and that really changed the game tonight. Reynolds then went on to score the field goal that proved decisive.
The Roosters attack is really struggling to fire lately. Their forwards struggling to make yardage and their overall game is certainly down on last season.
Final Score
Roosters: 8
Bulldogs: 9
The Sydney Roosters were outmuscled by Manly last week and need to brace themselves for another tug of war against the in-form Canterbury Bulldogs tonight. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEDT.
In good news for the Roosters, Sonny Bill Williams returns from a three-match suspension and should provide some much needed x-factor in the forwards against a tough Canterbury pack.
Sydney failed to bend Manly’s defensive line last week, with only Frank Paul Nu’uausala looking likely to cause trouble against the Sea Eagles’ defence with his strong charges.
The return of Williams offers the Roosters with some much-needed spark upfront and they will need every bit of it against the Bulldogs.
After a slow start against Melbourne, the Bulldogs overpowered the Storm en route to a 40-12 victory in Perth.
Bulldogs forwards Josh Jackson, Aiden Toleman, James Graham, Tony Williams and David Klemmer were all very strong and will fancy their chances of overpowering the Roosters’ pack.
Bulldog halves Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson were also very impressive, with Reynolds in particular starring when the Bulldogs piled on the points in the second half. His performance would not have gone unnoticed by NSW Origin coach Laurie Daley, and another strong effort tonight against Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney could see Reynolds zero in on a Blues jumper.
For the Roosters to keep the Bulldogs at bay, they have to fix up their discipline. They were on the wrong end of a lopsided penalty count against Manly and must find a way to avoid giving teams simple piggybacks out of trouble.
To Sydney’s credit, they managed to keep Manly out for long periods last week and such defensive resolve will serve them well against Canterbury.
Prediction
While the Bulldogs are in great form, the return of Sonny Bill may just spark the Roosters to life at home.
Roosters by 6.
