The Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m, Group 1, three-year-old fillies, set weights) at 4:20pm AEDT is the second Group 1 feature at Rosehill. Join us for our live coverage of Australia’s premier 2000m race three-year-old fillies.

Last week saw the running of the 2000m Rosehill Guineas for the colts and geldings, with Criterion thumping a high-quality field by saving ground along the fence.

With the rail out four metres, I expect the track to play similarly to last week. While the inside was off, horses struggled to make ground off wide runs, which is often the case at Rosehill. Most winners managed to save ground along the fence, before popping a few horses off in the straight.

The traditional lead-up is the Group 3 Keith Nolan Classic at Kembla Grange over a mile. The Guy Walter trained Zanbagh sat just off the pace and proved too strong. She has a proven record at the trip, but will start from the outside barrier.

In the same race, Interspersed settled last and hit a flat spot up the straight, before finding the line nicely. The first emergency Missvonn was another eye-catcher from that race. She was under pressure a long way from home, but ground to the line nicely suggesting the 2000m will suit.

Chris Waller’s pair, Define and All Cerise are coming off strong runs in the Phar Lap Stakes against the boys. Both will sit off the speed and have the ability to reel off strong sectionals.

The raiders from Victoria all come with strong claims, headlined by Solicit. Her on-pace runs in the Wakeful Stakes and VRC Oaks last year were extremely brave and she has continued her form this preparation, barring her last start in the Alexandra Stakes.

The first two across the line were Marianne and Suavito. who both step up to the 2000m for the first time. Mick Kent has a good record with fillies in Sydney and Marianne has been a model of consistency this preparation.

There are also three New Zealand fillies with live hopes, including New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Mossman. Nash Rawiller takes the ride on the progressive filly, who keeps stepping up to the challenge.

Rising Romance has been freshened since her second in the New Zealand Derby behind Puccini. She will get back, but has shown a sharp turn of foot in her staying races.

The final Kiwi is Lucia Valentina, who has sound form behind Rising Romance. Her run in the Coolmore Classic was terrific given horses on the pace dominated. She will appreciate the step up in trip and the easier opposition.

One from left field is the David Payne trained Artistic Lass (I’m still smiling about the win of Mirjulisa Lass in this race at 100-1 three years ago!). She will be ridden more positively from the wide barrier and she is one of the few proven 2000m gallopers.
