The Melbourne Demons will enter their Sunday afternoon clash with the Gold Coast Suns high on the confidence they earned in their 23-point win over the Blues last weekend. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:20pm (AEST).

A win against Carlton may not seem like a big achievement considering the dire situation the club is currently in.

However, positive signs for the Demons are generally in short supply, so we can expect that they will grab their glimmer of momentum with both hands and hit the ground running hard against the Suns today.

The Gold Coast Suns’ start to the season has been on par with expectations. Their opening rounds have seen a couple of impressive wins and a pair of expected losses.

Last week’s 99-point thrashing at the hand of the Hawks was a wake up call for all of those who thought the Suns might be a true force in 2014.

Despite their improvements, they still have a long way to go before they will match it with the best of the competition.

That being said, a victory today against the lowly Demons is essential in solidifying the Suns’ position as a mid-weight team.

In their two meetings last season it was the Suns who took all the honours. They will draw confidence from the clinical 114-54 victory they imposed on the Dees last time the teams met at the MCG.

In that match, Gary Ablett starred with 38-disposals. The little master has been in ripping form so far this seasons and has always enjoyed a day out at the MCG.

Each side has made a single change heading into this clash. The Demons have recalled Neville Jetta, while Dean Kent has been sidelined with a calf injury.

The Suns have been forced to omit Clay Cameron due to a shoulder concern, but welcome back Brandon Matera.

Matera will provide a welcome boost to the Suns forward line, and possibly some headaches for Demon defenders.

Suns by 24.
