Manchester United are set to sack manager David Moyes after less than a season in charge, according to a string of newspaper reports in the UK.
Reports in The Guardian and The Telegraph on Monday said Moyes would be given the boot after overseeing the club’s worst season since 1990-91.
Having taken over from Sir Alex Ferguson with a side that won the Premier League last season, Moyes has led United to seventh in the league with three games to go.
Not only will they be absent from the Champions League, they are also struggling to make the Europa League.
According to the reports, United’s owners, the Glazer family, have been discussing Moyes’ future and will announce their decision to let him go in the coming days.
Veteran United midfielder Ryan Giggs could be made manager on a caretaker basis to the end of the season, one report said.
Removing Moyes will not be cheap – he signed a six-year contract after leaving Everton in the summer – and United had long maintained that the new man would be given time to mould his team.
