As the jump season comes to an end, European racing looks to the flat and this Saturday’s 2000 Newmarket Guineas.

Here we’ll get a first look at the classic generation at Group 1 level.

The 2000 Guineas takes place on Sunday at 12.50am Australian time.

This race, run on the famous Rowley mile, is for three year old colts and fillies, although the fillies normally wait for the 1000 guineas.

Previous winners of this race include equine legends such as Brigadier Gerard, Sea the Stars and Frankel.

This year’s generation look above average and hopefully two or three genuine horses can go on and compete in this season’s European Group 1s.

One horse who looks like a genuine superstar is the favourite Kingman. He looked visually very impressive when defeating a smart field by over four lengths last time in Newbury. The turn of foot he showed have the experts like Timeform predicting some big performances from this colt.

Aidan O’Brien sends two of his top two-year-olds from last season here in Australia and War Command. O’Brien claimed last year that Australia was one of the best that came through Ballydoyle, his sire and dam are racing royalty.

His sire Galileo was a champion race horse and could well be one of the greatest thoroughbred breeders ever, while his dam Ouija Board was a high class racehorse winning Group 1s in the U.K, Ireland and Hong Kong.

Both these were middle distance horses so I believe this race might be too sharp for him. O’Brien’s other contender, War Command, looks more appealing. He won twice at Group 1 level as a two-year-old and should be competitive in this.

The Richard Hannon trained Toormore was another top two-year-old, winning the Group 1 National Stakes at Curragh. However on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket recently he gave an honest but unspectacular performance in winning that race.

Godolphin won this race last year with Dawn Approach and their main contender this year is Outstrip. In his last appearance he defeated the best of the Americans when winning the Group 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile.

Predictions:
1st Kingman
2nd War Command
3rd Outstrip
