Another exciting edition of the Giro d’Italia has confirmed with the Italian stage as the most enjoyable of the three Grand Tours. Join us here on The Roar for live updates from 10:30pm AEST.

Yesterday’s individual time trial saw Nairo Quintana of Movistar cement his lead in the pink jersey. Barring an accident, the Colombian will take the general classification tomorrow.

Moving into the final days of racing, the organisers have saved the best or most terrifying to last, depending on how you look at it.

Tonight’s penultimate stage will challenge even the most talented of the peloton’s mountain goats. Well, perhaps with the exception of Nairo Quintana, who I suspect will take out his third stage victory.

Today’s stage begins in Maniago and travels 167 kilometres up the Monte Zoncolan.

This mountain is not a Catgeory 1, it’s a Category Nightmare. Monte Zoncolan may only be about 10 kilometres in length, but it’s 18 per cent for most of it, with some sections touching on 20 per cent. My legs are burning just thinking about it. But the Monte Zoncolan isn’t the only climb of the day.

Riders will tackle the Category 1 Passo Delpura, which crops up after around 104 kilometres, and then the Category 2 Sellarazzo after 127 kilometres.

Quintana should ride out the winner but the battle for second is on between Fabio Aru (+3:48) and Colombian Rigoberto Uran (+3:07). Keep an eye out for Domenico Pozzovivo (+6:16), the young AG2R rider who may be a contender for tonight’s stage.
