It’s first against third when the Manly Sea Eagles and Canterbury Bulldogs meet in a blockbuster clash on Friday night at Brookvale Oval.

The Bulldogs won a controversial matchup in Round 14 of last year, with two contentious penalties against Manly seeing Trent Hodkinson slot through a match winning penalty goal in golden point.

Missing Daly Cherry-Evans and Anthony Watmough, the Sea Eagles were thrashed last weekend by the Broncos. They’ll certainly be hoping for a much improved performance this week with their playmaking duo of Kieran Foran and Cherry-Evans lining up together for the first time since Round 6.

An undermanned Bulldogs side went down last week against the Roosters to end their seven-match winning streak. They’ll be looking to start up another streak this week, with their Origin halves of Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds returning to the line-up.

The match up of the halves will be certainly be a highlight of the contest, as Daly Cherry Evans will be out for redemption after his quiet performance in Game 1 of State of Origin.

How the Sea Eagles handle the Bulldogs monster forward pack will likely determine the outcome on Friday, as Canterbury’s dominance in the middle has been key to their success this year.

In what is shaping up to be the match of the round, expect to see a fiery clash on Friday night as neither side will be taking a backwards step.
