A tryless first half saw Queensland head into the break with a 4-0 lead, the games still wide open. Which team would step up, seize the Origin moments, and win?

40th minute – Nate Myles lands on his enormous head
The very first tackle of the first half sees Queensland’s Nate Myles take the hit-up, only to be stopped in his tracks by three New South Welshmen.

As has become the fashion this season when a player loses all inertia but doesn’t go down, Myles is picked up and dropped on his head.

Any other player this may have resulted in serious injury, buy Myles tends to go into everything head-first. Injury averted, Queensland penalty.

43rd minute – Michael Jennings interecept
Queensland are barely 20 metres off their line when Jennings intercepts for NSW’s best attacking opportunity of the game.

But on the fourth tackle James Tamou spills the pill and Billy Slater regathers. Queensland relief and zero tackle.

50th minute – Sam Thaiday barges over
Greg Inglis effects a one-on-one rake 20 metres from the NSW line. Queensland play through the set, testing the Blues’ defensive resolve.

Thurston gets the ball and heads left, before swinging the ball back to the right and into the hands of Sam Thaiday. Thaiday dummies before straightening up, brushing off four NSW defenders and barging over for four points.

The video ref is called in to make a decision and a bobble between Thaiday and the ball just before he scores the try is enough to see the red light flash.

No try. Queensland 4-0.

55th minute – Brent Tate hobbles off
Brent Tate lands awkwardly in a clean tackle. But the man who had wobbly knees after being dumped on his head in the first game loses his legs this time. Aiden Guerra replaces Tate.

58th minute – triple knock-on
A NSW scrum packs down on halfway after a Queensland knock on, but Josh Reynolds spills it on the first tackle.

Queensland raid NSW’s right flank but the final pass goes astray under the pressure of a swarming NSW defence, and Daniel Tupou is left holding the ball.

65th minute – five NSW sets
Queensland spill the ball deep in their half for a NSW scrum feed. Scrambling Queensland defence sees hands going to stray balls three times, giving NSW repeat zero tackles, before a Josh Reynolds kick on the fifth results in Justin Hodges being cleaned up in goal. Line drop-out for another NSW set.

After six minutes of non-stop possession and hammering Queensland’s line, Robbie Farah double-pumps before sending it to Reynolds, Reynolds sends it to his Canterbury teammate Tent Hodkinson, who goes over for the first try of the match.

Hodkinson converts his try.

NSW 6-4 Queensland.

72nd minute – Restart goes dead on the full
Queensland’s restart goes deep into the NSW in-goal and Aaron Woods takes the gamble of a lifetime, leaving it go. The ball lands on the line and NSW get a penalty at halfway.

77th minute – Reynolds takes one for the team (after giving plenty)
After Queensland lose the ball on halfway, Josh Reynolds regathers. He goes to ground, where Thurston gives him an elbow to the face, and both teams look ready for an all-in. But punches lead to sin bins, so no one swings.

In the end both Thurston and Reynolds both go on report and NSW receive a penalty.

80th minute – the Hayne plane takes off into the crowd
A final act of desperation sees Queensland winger Darius Boyd get his boot to the ball just before being forced into touch.

Jarryd Hayne juggles the ball, keeping NSW hearts in throats, before he gains control and runs the ball dead.

The plane extends his arms and runs into the crowd, in what will be the defining image of the 2014 series.
