Belgium will look to show the world what it is capable of but another stubborn competitor in Russia stands in the way. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2:00am (AEST).

The Red Devils started their campaign slowly against Algeria but will be aiming to pick up where they left off after a much better second half showing.

This was chiefly down to the combined impact of Marouane Fellaini and Dries Mertens off the bench. The pair scored the crucial goals and can expect to be pushing for a start while Nacer Chadli and Moussa Dembele’s spots are under scrutiny.

Divock Origi also didn’t do himself any harm when he came on to lead the line in place of a disappointing Romelu Lukaku. The Premier League striker is expected to retain his spot and should he do so, will be looking to be more menacing in the opposition’s penalty area.

An injury cloud has hung over captain Vincent Kompany during the week but it seems he will recover in time to face Fabio Capello’s men.

The Russia manager offered his support to goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev after his inexplicable blunder gave South Korea the lead last time out. Akinfeev should keep his spot although there will be many more shots coming in from the Belgians.

Russia was also saved by the impact of a substitute in the shape of Aleksandr Kerzhakov and the experienced marksman could displace the younger Kokorin as Russia look to test the Belgian defence.

These sides met in the 2002 World Cup, where Belgium was triumphant 3-2 thanks to a winner from current manager Marc Wilmots. The last time they crossed paths it was a brace from then 17-year-old Lukaku that decided the outcome.

Russia is likely to set up in a similar way to Algeria, looking to frustrate and strike on the counter. Belgium will need to make much better use of their considerable possession. Doing so should see them through to a comfortable win.

Prediction: Belgium 2-0 Russia
