2002 Wimbledon champion, Australian’s Lleyton Hewitt, begins his Wimbledon campaign tonight against Michal Przysiezny at the All England Club.

Join the Roar for lives scores and commentary from 8:30pm (AEST) tonight.

It is the Australian’s 17th campaign in Wimbledon and his 61st Grand Slam event overall.

He is level with Roger Federer – who is also competing in his 61st event – and is nine shy of the record which is 70 by Fabrice Santoro.

The South Australian has a good opening round draw and faces Polish player Michal Przysiezny.

Przysiezny was one of the big risers last year, as he climbed from 208 in the world at the start of 2013, to 57 at the end of January this year.

His 2014 season though has been horror story.

Including Davis Cup, and ATP World Tour appearances, the Polish player has won once in sixteen main draw matches this year.

He is currently on a 13-match losing streak – including two losses in the Davis Cup – and has not won in the main draw since the Australian Open in January.

Hewitt, on the other hand, is in better form and made the second round of Queen’s a couple of weeks ago.

He lost to Feliciano Lopez who ended up making the final at the London event.

Hewitt has only lost on three occasions in the 1st round at Wimbledon. Those years were 2000, 2003, and 2012.

While his recent form at Wimbledon has not been as good as in previous years, Przysiezny won’t provide him with many troubles tonight.

The Polish player is out of form, lacking in confidence, and has struggled on grass this year.

He failed to qualify for the recent event in Eastbourne and was beaten by doubles specialist Chris Guccione in the event.

Hewitt needs to be ruthless on Przysiezny’s serve and attack the net as much as he can throughout the match.

The Australian is currently eighth in the ATP on break points converted with the South Australian converting 45 per cent of his chances this year.

If Przysiezny provides the Australian with chances then stats indicate he will break consistently in the match.

Hewitt then needs to serve well to consolidate those chances.

Hewitt’s serve has been one of his weaknesses in the past few years.

Not enough first serves has crippled the Australian and provided opportunities for his opponents to break.

It will need to be on song tonight for him to win.

If Hewitt wins tonight it would be the first time since 2007 that two South Australians are into the 2nd round of Wimbledon.

Luke Saville, from Barmera in the Riverland, was the first to progress last night.

Hewitt should win tonight and it could be over quickly if the Australian gets on top early.

Hewitt to win in straight sets.
