Costa Rica entered the World Cup with a formidable task ahead of them. Group D saw them face the might of Italy, Uruguay and England.

At the start of the competition, their hopes appeared minute.

But against the odds they have prevailed, conceding just one goal so far on their way to the top of their group.

In their final match they come up against England, a team playing for nothing but pride following losses in their opening two matches.

Not to mention the allegations attacking the devotion of their players that have emerged in recent days. The British media has erupted over the past 48 hours after it came to light that some English players did not want to play for England.

Needless to say, the team appears to be in complete disarray and all eyes will be on how they bounce back from their respective beltings on the field and in the press.

With the reality of another group stage exit already hanging over their heads, England have nothing to lose but more respect of their countrymen – something they will be desperate to cling to.

CATCH UP ON HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY 10 OF BRAZIL 2014

With their advancement to the Round of 16 already secure, and their first knockout match up against the qualifiers from the less than formidable Group C, Costa Rica could not be blamed for lifting their foot off the accelerator for this match and ensuring that their key players are ready and able to fire come the second half of the competition.

That being said, how could a team that was not expected to succeed let go of the precious momentum they currently possess?

Very different motivations will drive England and Costa Rica in this match, but one thing is for sure, we are set for another highly entertaining match of World Cup football.
