Roger Federer comes up against fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka in the Wimbledon quarter final. Join The Roar for live scores from 2:00am (AEST).

Switzerland were knocked out of the World Cup in devastating fashion against Argentina last night, and their nation’s hopes of Wimbledon glory are unfortunately destined to take a hit in an all-Swiss meeting tonight.

Federer and Wawrinka have a long and healthy rivalry; the two have met 15 times in the past, with Federer dominating the head-to-head standings with 13 wins to two.

They last met in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters just a few months ago – a match which Wawrinka won. Fresh memories of a recent victory are always nice to draw on when a match is in the balance – if it wasn’t for Monte Carlo, Wawrinka would be stretching his memory back to 2009. Interestingly then, history gives both of these men a reason to be confident.

Both enter this match off the back of convincing three set victories. Federer made light work of Spaniard, Tommy Robredo, dropping only nine games along the way.

Wawrinka endured more of a battle against 19th seed Feliciano López, needing to overcome two tiebreakers to secure his spot in the quarters.

With such heavy dominance in this rivalry, and seven Wimbledon titles under his belt, it is impossible to not place Federer as the favourite for this match. However, despite his 4th place seeding (one rung below Federer at 3rd), Wawrinka is the higher ranked of the two and technically the current no. 1 Swiss player.

With an Australian Open already under his belt in 2014, and some form against Federer to draw upon, we can be sure Wawrinka will throw everything he has at Federer in a bid to consolidate his strong season and really stamp some authority against his superstar countryman.

With two of the classiest one-handed backhands on display, this match is sure to provide some spectacular rallies as the Swiss maestros grind each other down in what could easily become an epic Wimbledon clash.
