Yorkshire gave us two thrilling opening stages of the Tour de France and tonight’s stage from the beautiful university town of Cambridge to England’s capital city, London should be equally thrilling. Join The Roar for live coverage of Stage 3 from 10:00pm (AEST).

Expect the sprinters to be out and about on what is an incredibly flat stage.

Cyril Lemoine will be guaranteed an extra day in the polka dot jersey as there are no King of the Mountain points up for grabs today.

Today’s stage is a short 155 kilometre ride beginning in Cambridge, travelling through the historic market town of Saffron Walden, through Epping Forest and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace, London.

With a finish in front of Buckingham Palace, I wonder if Kate and Wills will be on hand to cheer on yet another sporting event? They have had a busy sporting weekend indeed. They opened the Tour de France in Leeds on Saturday and on Sunday they watched Djokovic defeat Federer at Wimbledon. Time will tell if they’ll be on Granny’s balcony, cheering the riders home before the Tour de France convoy heads to France for the rest of the tour.

Before Saturday most of us would have expected this to be a Cavendish victory but with the Manx Missile out of the Tour, it’s hard to look past Germany’s Marcel Kittel for the stage victory. Andre Greipel should also be there pushing for a place but on this flat stage Kittel should have too much firepower for his rivals.

There is one intermediate sprint through Epping Forest at the 108 km mark where 20 points in the green jersey competition will be on offer.

Peter Sagan is sitting on top of the green jersey ladder with 69 points. Europcar’s Bryan Coquard has been aggressively chasing down points at the intermediate sprint stages and will possibly do so again today. He sits on 47 points, two points ahead of Kittel who has 45 points.

The winner of the stage will add 45 points to their green jersey tally.

The yellow jersey holder, Vincenzo Nibali has a two second lead over his rivals and all of the pressure that wearing yellow entails. The GC contenders will be happy finishing today together and in one piece.

Expect a fast and furious finish and hopefully a safe one.

Join me from 10:00pm AEST for tonight’s live blog.
