People had been wondering where the Queensland Maroons‘ attacking game had gone in games 1 and 2 of State of Origin in 2014. A thumping victory in Game 3 saw to that.

Was the dynasty over? Were the Maroons out of petrol? There were plenty of questions asked about the Maroons pre-game.

The questions remained after a first half where the Blues were amazingly resolute in defence. When Nate Myles was penalised for a forearm to the throat of Greg Bird, it looked like NSW were still in with a sniff.

But the Maroons’ domination of possession in the opening 40 minutes eventually came to pay off, with Queensland crossing for four tries in the second half.

It was a mix of the old and the new, with Cherry Evans setting up Cameron Smith for perhaps the most spectacular try of the night in the opening half. The grubber kick after a strong run from the Manly half showed what Queensland have to look forward to when he takes over the halfback jersey from Cooper Cronk.

But that won’t be anytime soon, with Cronk putting on a clinic in attack in the second half. His organisation and passing game helped set up tries for Billy Slater, Aidan Guerra, Darius Boyd and Cronk himself.

Veteran forward Corey Parker, man of the match for Origin 3, was also instrumental for the Queensland side, creating countless opportunities with powerful runs and plenty of offloads.

It was a masterclass from the Maroons, bringing back plenty of memories of the last eight years.

It will be of little solace to the Maroons, of course, who have lost their first series in nine years. The Blues held aloft the trophy after the match, and no matter how impressive Queensland’s attack was in this match, there’s no getting that shield back.

But it was good football to watch, so sit back, watch the clip above, and have your say on the action from State of Origin Game 3.
