MATCH RESULT:

The margin was fairly close in the end but the Hawks had pulled away from the Crows enough early in the fourth term to make it unlikely.

Adelaide did everything they could to reel it in but their forward pressure late in the game just wasn’t quite enough to get the win. Still, they would take heart from this in that they were playing very good football.

The Hawks didn’t have any huge standout performers, but were consistent enough across the team to get the job done, with five players kicking multiple goals, including Jack Gunston as the standout with 4. Sam Mitchell had 28 touches, a team high.

FINAL SCORE:
ADELAIDE 14.8.92
HAWTHORN 15.14.104

MATCH PREVIEW:

Tonight the Adelaide Crows host the Hawthorn Hawks at Adelaide Oval, hoping the stadium can host an upset for the third week in a row. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:50pm (AEST).

The Crows have been finding form towards the right time of year in recent weeks with three wins from their last four, including a big upset victory over Port Adelaide in the showdown, and a 68-point thrashing of the GWS Giants last week.

The Hawks last week saw a five-game winning streak come to its end at the hands of North Melbourne. They’ll be keen to get back on the winners list this week, especially given the loss last week cost them top spot on the ladder.

The Hawks currently have the wood over Adelaide having won the last three straight against them, though this will be the first time the two clubs have met at Adelaide Oval.

One of those three was the famous 2012 Preliminary Final in which the Hawks won by less than a goal. Adelaide’s most recent win was in Round 1, 2011.

The Crows have made only a single change to last week’s winning team, a forced change, as Jason Porplyzia comes in to replace a hamstrung David Mackay.

The Hawks have made three changes, with Ben McEvoy, Will Langford and Jonathan Simpkin coming in. Brad Sewell will miss through a hamstring injury, Brian Lake through suspension, and premiership player David Hale has been omitted.

With the Hawks not naming a genuine replacement for Brian Lake at full back, keep an eye on Adelaide’s Taylor Walker, who loves a big game and will have a soft defensive match up.

Can the Crows cause an upset and put themselves back in serious finals contention? Or will the Hawks run over them on the road to September?

Prediction
I’m very tempted to tip the outlier here as I think the Crows will put up a real fight. My bet is that this one will be more closely contested than the ladder positions might suggest, but I think the Hawks will get on top in the end.

Hawthorn by 12 points.
