The Fremantle Dockers host the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Patersons Stadium on Sunday afternoon to close out Round 17. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:40pm (AEST).

The Swans are the only team in the competition that boast a longer winning streak than Fremantle. The Dockers have won their past seven matches, and will be confident of pushing that to eight when they come up against the 15th placed Giants on Sunday afternoon.

After a slow start to the season that saw them drop three of their first six matches, the Dockers have well and truly got their 2014 campaign back on track. Currently sitting in 4th on the ladder, last year’s grand finalists look well placed to enter September inside the top four.

With Hawthorn sitting just a few percentage points above the Dockers but perched in second place, Fremantle will see this match as a good opportunity to boost their percentage and make a push for second place.

Their recent stretch of form has been inflated by a string of (what will be) nine games against teams outside the top eight. This run will come to an abrupt end in Round 20 when they face Geelong, followed by Hawthorn and then Port Adelaide in the final round.

This stretch of games will prove to be the true test for Fremantle in their quest to return to the Grand Final this year – they will be aware of the need to make the most of an easy draw while it is gifted to them.

The Dockers and Giants have only met twice in the Giants’ short history. Both of these games were at Paterson’s Stadium, and both were won by Fremantle by an average of more than 100 points.

With this in mind, the Giants goal must be to put in a strong showing and prove that they can be competitive when facing one of the toughest road trips in the competition.
