NBA stars Mills and Baynes videobomb Fox Sports live cross

Patty Mills and Aron Baynes of the San Antonio Spurs have made an extremely unhappy Julian de Stoop of Fox Sports a bit sheepish after they interrupted his AFL live cross today.

It’s a daily battle for television journalists. Two larrikins come in to interrupt your cross, flying whatever flag or flaunting whatever item they want to make famous.

The reporter is under the pump. A couple of hooligans just want to get their noggins on TV, or they could be, in the words of the reporter in the video above, de Stoop, a couple of Collingwood “nuffies”.

A brief reprimand, perhaps a gentle shove to one of them, and they’ll get the message and move along eventually. That’s exactly what happened.

In this case, however, the hooligans were two of the biggest sporting stars in Australia, Patty Mills and Aron Baynes from the San Antonio Spurs, and the item they were carrying just happened to be one of the richest prizes in sport, the NBA championship trophy.

Yes, Baynes and Mills have been touring Australia with the newly-won NBA crown in tow, and they’re used to being celebrities wherever they go.

De Stoop didn’t recognise them out of the corner of his eye, and gave a gentle shove to the injured Mills, who then fluttered out of shot with Baynes and the NBA trophy.

In retrospect, we’re sure de Stoop would have loved and exclusive with the two basketballers. His reaction after the cross definitely suggested as much, as well as his tweets afterwards in which he acknowledged he had no idea who he was shoving.

It makes for hilarious watching, either way.

You have to feel for de Stoop, who must have copped a fair number of videobombers in his time. He was only defending a product that was being broadcast live on Fox Sports News.

Either way, it’s one way to brighten up the news cycle, and it wasn’t without a scoop.

Patty Mills’ injured shoulder seemed to withstand a little bit of pressure just fine.

And you can even read a first-hand account of the encounter from de Stoop here.

They all seem like nice guys!
