There was once a time when the Vikings struck fear into the hearts of the people of Europe. Villagers and townspeople huddled together in hiding as the Raiders from the north came to plunder and destroy.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls once again we have reason to fear the vikings. As a passionate Broncos fan, I was overjoyed when Anthony Milford decided to honour his contract with Brisbane for next year, so much so that last weekend I made the trip to the Gold Coast to see our future acquisition in action.

What I saw gave me great hope as Milford led the Giants, Seagulls, Chargers, Titans or whatever they are calling themselves this week, on a merry dance.

However what I saw also caused great concern.

As mentioned earlier, I don’t really hear or see much of the Raiders, but I do like to survey the competition from time to time and see who poses the biggest threat to the mighty Broncos over the course of the season.

Folks, what I see is a team of lime green warriors.

Yes Milford will be north of the ACT next year, but there is much more to worry about than that.

Watching Jarrod Croker over the weekend I thought he had been playing NRL for years, but upon speaking to a group of Raiders supporters sitting next to me I discovered he is just a kid!

As a proud Queenslander, I am hoping NSW continue to ignore this guy because we need to rebuild the Queensland dynasty. Kids like this could be a real obstacle, with a dangerous running game and goal kicking you could set your watch to.

These Canberra folk also mentioned a kid called Jack Wighton. This struck a chord and I remembered seeing this kid before. Folks, believe me he is just as good as Croker.

Then I laid eyes on Paul Vaughn and Jarrod Kennedy. No man as big as Vaughn should be able to move as quickly or possess the agility that he does, and the boy Kennedy would have given the Titans nightmares of broken defensive lines for the next month.

Kurt Baptiste, now there is someone I have seen before and I put my head in my hands as I wondered why Brisbane let him go as he punctured the Gold Coast defence like a bullet through paper.

What do the Raiders have in store as far as a replacement for Milford? Who knows but history tells us that the Raiders always find a quality fullback.

After Gary Belcher there was Brett Mullins, who was succeeded by Clinton Schifcofske, whose reign was soon taken up by Josh Dugan after a small interim period who then gave way to Milford. There will be another.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls we should not mock these Raiders from the south, they may be young and inexperienced now but they will rise up.

Rival NRL clubs should be bolting the gates and hammering timber across the windows because although we have taken Milford these young lads will pose a serious threat to the club competition.

From an Origin point of view, I dread what havoc this lads they call Croker, Wighton, Vaughn and Fensom could potentially do to Queensland for years to come.

It might not be this year, it might not even be next year, but brace yourselves folks – the Raiders are coming.
