The Parramatta Eels can put themselves back in finals contention if they can play to their potential against top-four hopefuls the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEST.

A promising season for the Eels has taken several blows following successive defeats to Melbourne, New Zealand and Newcastle.

Parramatta are coming off a 48-nil hiding against the Warriors last week and need a win at home against the Rabbitohs to restore much needed confidence and stability.

Jarryd Hayne is back in Parramatta’s line-up after missing last week’s contest against the Warriors. He will need to fire big time if the Eels hope to upset South Sydney.

Parramatta are certainly capable of causing the upset. South Sydney have struggled to hit top gear all season and are coming off a below par defeat to the Titans at home.

Despite their fairly lofty position on the ladder, South Sydney are certainly beatable away from home. Adam Reynolds has struggled to fire in the halves for the Rabbitohs and his clash against Chris Sandow will go a long way to dictating which team wins.

One area where the Rabbitohs continue to perform well is in defence, having conceded the fewest points thus far in 2014.

The Eels on the other hand leak plenty of points, but should be favoured to produce a much stronger effort at home.

The Eels with a win tonight would climb to eighth spot on the ladder pending Melbourne’s result against Canberra the day after.

The Rabbitohs meanwhile will keep their top-four hopes alive with a win, so expect both teams to show up.

Despite losing heavily last week, the Eels at home have what it takes to cause the upset.
