The 2014 FIFA World Cup is done but its legacy will remain forever. Germany are crowned as World Champions and rightfully so. This team came ten years after revolutionising German football, starting with Jürgen Klinsmann and ending with Joachim Löw.

Germany came out strong in 2006 – even after losing the final in 2002 – and continued to get stronger each World Cup. The 2010 World Cup Germany was called by many “the golden generation of German football”.

In 2014 they showed beautiful football full of spirit, heart and intelligence, which won them the tournament. In 2018 Germany should be threatening with a young team turned old, with experience and skill.

Legendary Miroslav Klose finished his fourth and final World Cup with a record 16 goals and finally a trophy to finish it off. Hard working and always showing great sportsmanship, Klose came close – finishing second once and third twice.

In the final he gave way to the goal scorer Mario Götze in the 88th minute, giving him words of wisdom and receiving a roar from around the stadium. Klose truly deserves this triumph.

Bastian Schweinsteiger imposes strength and honour into the midfield being one of the most important parts of the Nationalmannschaft. In the final he produced an exceptional performance. Schweinsteiger is an unforgettable part of this German team of heroes.

Phillip Lahm, who has just retired from international football, deserves a round of applause by football fans and players all over the world. He captained Germany exceptionally well since 2010 and has always been a talented and versatile player for Germany.

Toni Kroos joined Schweinsteiger in the middle, fighting hard and executing with excellence. He had few mishaps in the final, but you can expect to see him shine in 2018. He is still young and will continue to improve.

Thomas Müller at 20 years of age showed great potential in the 2010 World Cup. Now, at 24, he played a big part in Germany’s road to the final. Hard working and all smiles no matter what, Müller is a team player that will be the base of the front line in 2018.

Manuel Neuer’s goal keeping was top notch all tournament and the Golden Gloves award was well deserved. Against Algeria he was the difference.

Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels played well at the back throughout the tournament and were a winning defensive partnership. Hummels was a tad unstable in the beginning of the final but redeemed himself later on. Boateng was making big tackles all game and was an asset to the German team.

You can’t forget Mesut Ozil, who is always a calming presence on the field and who moves the ball of the field with composure. Many say he is a disappointment but he continues to compete at the highest level with Arsenal and with Germany.

Germany’s young talent were the major asset throughout the tournament. In Russia, they will have a great chance to showcase how they have progressed and grown. Germany has an abundance of talent on the bench, which helps achieve their winning ways.
