The Sydney Roosters start strong favourites against the Penrith Panthers today but Ivan Cleary’s men are every chance of causing the upset away from home. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3.00pm AEST.

Having had over two weeks to think about their capitulation to the Sharks, Sydney need to get back into the winner’s circle against a determined Panthers side in good form.

Penrith are coming off an epic 35-34 victory over the Broncos on Monday night – a result that keeps them well in the running for a top-two finish.

Despite losing Tyron Peachey and Josh Mansour to injuries, Penrith still find a way to win. They gave up a 16-point lead against Brisbane but still kept their nerve to secure victory at the death.

The Roosters on the other hand have forgotten how to put teams away. They led an under-strength Sharks outfit 24-nil halfway through the first half, only to take their foot of the pedal en route to a poor 30-28 defeat.

For all their pedestrian play this season, the Roosters still find themselves in the race for a top-four spot but cannot afford any more slip-ups at home.

Today’s game is all about attitude for the Roosters. Penrith will show up with plenty of belief and confidence and will defeat Sydney if the home side once again fail to turn up for the arm wrestle.

The Roosters at their best can prove unstoppable at the best of times, particularly when they play direct. Too often though they have tried to go around the opposition without having earned the right to do so.

If Sydney are to win today, they must knuckle down and do the hard yards against a committed Panthers unit for the full 80 minutes. If they can do that, the Roosters should win.

Anything less will see the Panthers secure another victory.

Roosters by 6.
