The Brisbane Lions’ Daniel Merrett has been put on report for a late hit on the Melbourne Demon’s Cameron Pedersen.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the teams’ Round 19 AFL clash at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the Dees leading 49-36 with less than 17 minutes remaining, Melbourne’s Dom Tyson launched a kick to Pedersen from inside their defensive 50. As the Demon took the mark, a late fisted spoil from Merrett resulted in a simultaneous forearm to the nose of Pedersen.

A 50m penalty was awarded to Melbourne as Pedersen left the field for the blood bin after suffering a suspected broken nose from the incident.

Merrett then kicked the next goal as Brisbane ended up winning the match 74-51 to go eight points ahead of the bottom three sides of Melbourne, GWS and St Kilda.

The AFL’s Match Review Panel will determine the outcome of Merrett’s report on Monday evening and, coming just days after Tyrone Vickery’s ban, what will be the MRP’s verdict?
