MATCH RESULT:

The Canberra Raiders have taken out the battle of the wooden spooners with 22 to 12 victory over the Cronulla Sharks.

Canberra’s Anthony Milford was instrumental in today’s victory, netting two tries and having his hand in another.

The loss adds further misery to the Sharks side who are still dealing with the ramifications from this week’s ASADA bans.

FINAL SCORE:
Raiders 22
Sharks 12

Both have been hit hard with injuries this season and Cronulla are without a number of players for the rest of the season after accepting bans from ASADA.

The current and former Sharks players were given until Friday morning to make a decision on whether they would accept a back-dated ban from ASADA.

Player accepted and copped a three game suspension – excluding representative football opportunities that is.

For Canberra, Jack Wighton moves to fullback in the place of Jordan Rapana, Jeremy Hawkins will make his debut in the centres, Kyle O’Donnell will replace Brett White and Dane Tilse moves into the starting side.

Cronulla has lacked scoring penetration since Todd Carney departed, apart from a two week passage where they clawed back 20-point margins.

They’ve been able to garner field position but they’ve lacked the creativity to continuously challenge opposition defensive lines.

Canberra have a similar story, although livewire five-eighth Anthony Milford has been a shining light in his final season at the club.

For the Raiders, a loss here would have to see Ricky Stuart invent another reason as to why it’s not his fault, while claiming that the situation will improve in time.

Cronulla have taken another hit this week, and it will be hard for them to regroup and mentally prepare for this match.

That being said, I can see Canberra getting beaten today and I’m going to tip Cronulla by 6 in a scrappy game.
