The third round of the English Premier League begins on Saturday at 9:45 pm (AEST) with newly promoted side Burnley facing the lacklustre Manchester United at Turf Moor.

Louis van Gaal will be looking for his first competitive win as United boss, and in what could be Angel di Maria’s first game for the club the anticipation grows for club and fans alike.

Burnley come into the match after losing their first two matches back in the Premier League (to Chelsea and Swansea). Both sides lost midweek in the League Cup to lower-tiered opposition in MK Dons and Sheffield Wednesday.

The next lot of games begin at midnight. Out of the five games the picks are undefeated Manchester City at home against winless Stoke City, and the battle of two undefeated sides as Swansea City host West Bromwich Albion.

Having already beaten Manchester United, the Swans and new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson will be looking to continue their perfect start to the season against a West Brom side that have only the one goalscorer so far this season in Saido Berahino.

Sigurdsson scored the winner for Swansea and was named man of the match against Manchester United, and the sole Welsh side in the competition will be looking to make the Liberty Stadium a fortress.

In the other matches at midnight on Saturday night are Queens Park Rangers versus Sunderland, Southampton travel to London to play West Ham and Crystal Palace along with new manager Neil Warnock will make their way to St. James Park in Newcastle to face the goalless Toon.

The final match on Saturday night/Sunday morning will have Chelsea travelling to Merseyside to face the ever-resilient Everton, who have continued their old ways in drawing matches. Reports suggest Chelsea may be without the services of top-goalscorer Diego Costa for up to six weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in training.

There are two early games on Sunday night in the EPL. At 10:30 pm (AEST) Hull City host Aston Villa, with both sides having gained a win and a draw from their first two matches. Then there’s the pick of the bunch with top-of-the-table Tottenham facing Liverpool and their new signing Mario Balotelli.

Liverpool travel to north London after an away loss to reigning champions Manchester City, and will look to become the first team to find the back of the net against the Spurs. Tottenham, on the other hand, are coming off a thumping 4-0 win against newly promoted QPR, where last year’s signings Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela took control and finished with two goals and two assists respectively.

This game could give a great insight as to who will be challenging for the title come May 2015.

In the final game of the round newly promoted side Leicester will welcome the Gunners to King Power Stadium after a strong showing in the first half against powerhouses Chelsea. Arsenal will play their second straight game away from home, having come off a 2-2 draw with Everton.

New signing Calum Chambers has been a solid defender for Arsenal so far this season, and following his call-up to the England squad he will be looking to continue the form he has shown, and prove why he is in the national set-up.
