Brothers Tim and Will Gleeson have both made impressive American football debuts for their new colleges, Rutgers University and University of Mississippi respectively.

Hailing from Melbourne, both are the product of Prokick Australia punting and kicking school, training under Nathan Chapman.

Tim first began punting at the University of Wyoming in 2012, receiving a full football scholarship, then moved on to Santa Barbara City College, California, before transferring to Rutgers in New Jersey this year.

Younger brother Will began with a red shirt season at Ole Miss in 2013 before being named the team’s starting punter this season.

Ole Miss football has a lot of history with both Archie Manning, father of Peyton, and Eli attending the college. While Eli chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Rebels, Peyton decided to attend the University of Tennessee.

The competition is high level with Ole Miss belonging to the South Eastern Conference (SEC), which many football analysts believe to be the strongest football conference in the NCAA and a farm for producing NFL-draft ready talent. At Ole Miss, Will Gleeson will be playing against the likes of the Nick Saban coached Alabama Crimson Tide and Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina – which last season included the 2014 number one overall NFL draft pick Jadaveon Clowney on their roster.

In his debut for the Rebels, Will punted four times for a total of 189 yards in the 35-13 victory over Boise State. He averaged 47.25 yards per punt and landed three of the four punts inside the 20-yard line, with his longest effort being 70 yards. The impressive debut landed Will the Ray Guy player of the week award, given out by the Augusta Sports Council.

What’s even more impressive is that Will first picked up a football only two years ago. On debut he executed textbook punting for an SEC division one college team.

“It was my first game of American football ever, so I didn’t really know what to expect”, Gleeson said.

Meanwhile, bother Tim’s Scarlet Knights narrowly came away with a 41-38 victory against Washington State. Tim had two punts for an average of 31.5 yards, with both ending up inside the 20. This is the first season for Rutgers in the BIG 10 conference that includes college football stalwarts, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes.

Both brothers were lucky enough to experience NFL stadiums on their 2014 debuts, with the Rebels playing at the Georgia Dome, home of the Atlanta Falcons and the Rutgers game against Washington State held at Century Link Field in Seattle, home of the reigning Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks.
