The Hobart Hurricanes will look to register their first win in the Champions League t20 2014 when they take on the Cape Cobras at Hyderabad on Sunday and you can follow the live blog of this T20 starting 9.30pm AEST.

It was an under-par start for both, the Hurricanes and the Cobras in their opening Group A encounters, resulting in a defeat for both.

While the Cobras can blame, to a certain extent, the weather for their opening loss, the vanilla fact is that they bowled poorly and when the rain came down, they were way behind the eight-ball.

Chasing Northern Districts’ 207 for a win, the Cobras were struggling at six an over after 7.2 overs, and in all fairness, it was the right result.

The Hurricanes fought that tad bit harder but ran out of ammunition in the end. Again, much like the Cobras losing out to their poor bowling, the Hurricanes batting will need to share a lot of the blame for their defeat.

On a flatish looking track, the Hurricanes managed just 144 and it wasn’t because they struggled to get away. More so because their batting failed to convert their starts into anything substantial. There were scores of 26, 27, 28 and 28 but none higher than that – an indication of a problem of getting out at most inopportune times during the game.

Credit where it is due though and despite the under-par total, the Hurricanes bowlers did make a match out of it in the first half of the chase. Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus bowled excellent three-over spells but Cameron Boyce had a poor day with the ball that did not help the Aussie side.

Interestingly, Ben Laughlin seemed to have sent down a decent first over but was taken off from the attack after that. It certainly did not help the side’s cause as Boyce and Evan Gulbis failed to stem the run-flow in the second half of the chase.

By the time Hilfenhaus and Bollinger were brought back to bowl their respective fourth over, the momentum had swung against them.

Both teams will be averse to making changes but the format of the tournament is such that a loss for either team will reduce their chances of making the semi-finals drastically. The Cobras need to plaster the chinks their bowling had exhibited last game while the Hurricanes will hope their batsmen can carry on from the starts they get.
