Cadel Evans to announce plans for his future tomorrow

Australian cycling great Cadel Evans will confirm his future plans at the road world championships in Spain on Friday morning (AEST).

The 37-year-old has called a press conference with BMC Racing Team president Jim Ochowicz in Ponferrada, ahead of Sunday’s elite men’s road race.

Evans is off contract with BMC at the end of the season and there’s speculation that the 2011 Tour de France winner could announce his retirement from top-level racing.

After the world titles, Evans is expected to ride the Tour of Lombardy, a one-day classic that traditionally ends the international season on October 5.

The most likely scenario is that Evans will then compete at next January’s Tour Down Under in Adelaide, before the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road one-day race in Victoria on February 1.

It’s possible Evans could make that event his swansong.
