League leaders Chelsea will be expecting to keep their unbeaten record in this season’s English Premier League alive when they welcome third place Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 12:00am (AEST).

Chelsea’s form this season has been imperious all bar a slight hiccup, coming in the form of last weekend’s 1-1 draw away at fellow title contenders Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that his side maintains their standing atop the Premier League with what some might expect to be a routine victory.

Aston Villa on the other hand have had an unexpectedly encouraging start to the season and sit third despite last weekend’s 3-0 loss against a Mesut Ozil inspired Arsenal side.

A win here would see Paul Lambert’s side draw level on points with today’s opponents and send a real message that Villa mean business this season.

Chelsea have come away victors in four of their last five fixtures against Aston Villa and will be hoping to continue this dominance when they meet at the Bridge.

In the most recent meeting of the two sides it was Villa who snatched maximum points with a hard fought 1-0 victory at home, consequently they will be trying vehemently to extend their winning streak over the Blues to two.

On the injury front, Mourinho will be able to field a full strength starting XI with all players fully fit aside from midfielder Ramires (knee) who remains a doubt but could still take his place in the side.

Contrastingly, Villa still sport a rather lengthy injury list with Captain Ron Vlaar (calf), defender Nathan Baker (illness), midfielder Ashley Westwood (illness) as well as strikers Andreas Weimann (illness) and Darren Bent (illness) doubtful for this clash.

In addition to this, frontmen Christian Benteke (lack of match fitness) and Libor Kozak (broken leg) are also unavailable.

Chelsea will be hoping that big money signings Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa continue their brilliant recent form which has seen them top the assist and scoring charts with six and seven respectively.

They will be the key for the Blues as they attempt to continue their free scoring ways, having already netted 16 times in just five matches.

Villa stopper Brad Guzan suggested this week that their game plan involved discipline and commitment, stating “You can’t give them an inch because if you do, they will take a yard. You have to give yourself a chance to be successful.”

They will be hoping the game plays out similarly to their victory at Anfield just two matchdays ago in which a Gabby Agbonlahor goal was enough to snatch victory from a much fancied opponent.

I predict a narrow 2-1 victory for Chelsea here, I feel as though Villa will bring great confidence to Stamford Bridge following a positive start to the season, however the threat of big name stars such as Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Terry will simply prove too much for the boys from Birmingham.

Will Villa be able to cause an early upset against the unbackable Premier League title favourites?
