[VIDEO] Dallin Watene-Zelezniak soars to score against Canterbury

Penrith winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has scored one of the tries of the season in the NRL preliminary final against Canterbury.

In an astonishing show of athleticism, and not even from a running start, the young winger managed to run 35 metres and snatch the ball almost straight out of the hands of Bulldogs fullback Sam Perrett.

Jamie Soward reefed the ball high in the air from the 40-metre line, and Watene-Zelezniak had to check his run to remain onside.

Despite this, he managed to tear his way to within the 10-metre line, and grab the ball away from an astonished Perrett, who looked in good position to take the catch.

It was reminiscent of Anthony Minichiello’s try in the preliminary final last night against South Sydney, with him snatching it away from Greg Inglis and taking it over the line.

Watene-Zelezniak is just 19 to Minichiello’s 34 years, and his leap showed what’s to come for fans of the Panthers.

It has been a remarkable entry into the NRL for Watene-Zelezniak, who took over from veteran David Simmons earlier this season, and has retained his position for the eight games since his debut.

This is not the first time he has fly high either, famously defusing a bomb against the Warriors in round 26.

The try wasn’t enough to deliver Penrith the win though, with the Bulldogs getting over the Panthers by six points. You can read the full match report of the game here.
