Here is what happened in the other categories that are racing at Mount Panorama this weekend.

Today was all about practice, with qualifying for each category to start tomorrow.

Here is a brief wrap of what happened in each category at the mountain today.

Touring Car Masters
Practice was dominated by John Bowe in his Ford Mustang as he took both sessions out at Mt Panorama.

In the first session, Bowe did a 2:23.3205, to be the fastest driver in the session.

It was the first session completed at the mountain this year.

He was a second quicker than Keith Kassulke and Kim Jane who finished in second and third respectively.

In the second session, Bowe went even faster, and extended his gap to the rest of the field. He did a 2:20.5137 to set the lap record in the Touring Car Masters as well.

It broke the record set by Glenn Seton last year and was 1.9 seconds quicker than the field.

Andrew Miedecke and Kim Jane rounded out the top three.

I spoke to someone from the Bowe camp after the session and they say they can go even faster.

They are installing a new diff to try to get the Mustang up to four seconds quicker than today.

With a qualifying session, and a race tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if those predictions come true.

V8 Utes
The records continued to break with another two going in the V8 Utes today.

In the first session of the Utes, and the second of the day overall, the first record was broken.

Ryal Harris, the 2012 and 2013 champion broke the record with a 2:32.7836. Harris, in his Ford, broke the record set by David Sieders in 2012.

He finished the first session ahead of Kris Walton and Nathan Pretty. However, his record didn’t last long with the record broken again in the second session.

Kris Walton, who leads the championship, broke the record with a 2:32.6022.

Ryal Harris was second with a 2:32.8810. They are the only two drivers in the 2:32’s so far this weekend.

Rhys McNally was third for Holden, in Practice 2, but he was over a second behind Walton.
The V8 Utes only have a qualifying session tomorrow. There first race is on Saturday.

Porsche Carrera Cup
It was a frustrating day for the Carrera Cup field with both sessions hampered by red flags.

In Practice 1, Nick Foster reduced the session, after hitting the Esses and becoming stuck in the tyre bundle off the track.

In Practice 2, it was championship leader Warren Luff, who hit the wall at Reid Park and suffered damage to his Porsche.

His team, No Second Chance racing, face a long night ahead of them.

It wasn’t all bad news for Luff as he did take out the first session of the day with a 2:10.6291.

In the second session, David Russell was the quickest, with a 2:10.2021.

In the elite class Shane Smollen was the quickest in both sessions.

Tomorrow sees qualifying and race one as the business end of the weekend starts for the Carrera Cup.

Aussie Racing Cars
Phil Ward was the quickest in the Aussie Racing Cars in the first and only practice session for the field today.

He set a time of 2:36.0839 to be over two tenths quicker than James Abela in second position.

Family Feud host, and former Bathurst 1000 representative, Grant Denyer, rounded out the top three in the session.

The Aussie Racing Cars will have qualifying and Race one tomorrow.

Dunlop Series
Last but not least, the Dunlop Series had one practice session, as they prepare for the 250 kilometre endurance race on Saturday.

It was a session marred by red flags with two coming out during the session.

The first one came out when Aaron Tebb, in his Voight Contracting Commodore, got stuck in the sand trap at the Chase. He was able to recover the car and finish 23rd in the session.
The second one came out for Peter Rullo who had a crash near the Chase as well.

He gained significant damage to the front of his car.

The session was taken out by Paul Dumbrell who did a 2:10.3881.

Cameron Waters and Ash Walsh, both in Fords, rounded out the top three.

They will be looking to go much quicker than that tomorrow when they have another practice session in the morning.

The Dunlop Series will then have qualifying in the afternoon right after the V8 Supercars.
