The Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) kicks off a fiesta of Group 1 races this afternoon at Caulfield, including the Toorak Handicap.

Join us here on The Roar from 3:40pm for race previews, results and reaction for all the Group 1 races this afternoon.

Fawkner, the current Caulfield Cup champion will be aiming to get his second Group 1 victory in the race today.

The son of Reset is relishing his chances and looks to have come off well from a light campaign during the autumn, where he competed in just one race which was the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The thing that was eye catching about that run for mine was that he came from last to finish just two lengths behind Spirit of Boom.

He resumed and was outgunned by Dissident in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), it looks to be a battle of the pair again as Fawkner looks to turn the tables on Dissident this time around.

Fawkner will certainly have the race fitness and will improve second-up for this one and will prove hard to beat.

He hasn’t finished outside the top two once in his five second-up appearances finishing first three times and finishing second once. With the only unplacing coming in the George Main Stakes (1800m).

The main dangers will come in the form of Sacred Falls who was superb last time out, but I do query the weight.

Then Happy Trails who looked impressive two starts back before failing last time out, Ollie is in the saddle now which will certainly improve the chances.

Dear Demi will look to swoop late and Foreteller is super quality.

Brent Ford Tips:
1. Fawkner 2. Dissident 3. Sacred Falls 4. Foreteller

The Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at 4:30pm AEDT which follows will prove to be a tasty entree for the Thousand and Caulfield Guineas respectively.

Bull Point who has been unlucky this preparation looks fired up to take this one out and peak at the right time.

A son of Fastnet Rock flopped in his only 1600m attempt when finishing 11 lengths to finish last in the Randwick Guineas, but since coming on with Chris Waller looks like a horse that will hit the mile trip with ease.

Formely trained by Gai Waterhouse, Bull Point ran well in his first two preparations, a third place behind Zoustar and Dissident in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m), a win in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) and a 1.4 length fourth to Moment Of Change in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

He continues to improve under Waller’s guidance in a stable that is absolutely flying. With no Dissident in this and meeting Trust In A Gust 2kg better off over a longer trip I believe is the key here today.

The form around Dissident is the key here and enough to be competitive in any race between 1400 and 2000m and the fact that Bull Point has drawn the good barrier in barrier 2 makes him a standout in an open field.

Guest Of Honour, looks to have some class but will likely need the run, while other top contenders, Commanding Jewel (barrier 10), Arabian Gold (13), Solicit (14), Akavoroun (12) and Trust In A Gust (11) have all drawn wide and will need to get lucky during the race.

Brent Ford Tips:
1. Bull Point 2. Trust in a Gust 3. Guest of Honour 4. Arabian Gold
