Match Recap:

Well as predicted Adelaide show their potential and secure a great 2-1 victory over reigning champions the Roar. Adelaide were the better team in my book and, despite trailing early, they found a way back into the contest via a great goal by Djite and an own goal in the second half.

The Roar had McKay sent off in the second half but Adelaide chose to sit back and protect their lead and it nearly proved costly as Petratos, Broich and Henrique began to cause havoc. Great win for Adelaide and a blockbuster awaits against the Victory next week!

Brisbane 1

Match Preview:

Reigning A-League champions Brisbane Roar begin their title defence against an Adelaide United outfit with the potential to accomplish plenty of success this season. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:00pm AEDT.

Two teams that love to control possession clash this afternoon in what should be a very entertaining contest.

Although the Roar are without Besart Berisha this season, they still have midfield maestro Tomas Broich pulling the strings in attack.

Adelaide have a midfield star of their own in Marcelo Carrusca. The Argentine was at the heart of everything that Adelaide did well in attack last season and his match-up against Broich will most likely decide which team wins.

If Adelaide are to take the next step toward championship glory, they need to be more proactive when in possession. The Reds last season often struggled to create chances away from home, despite controlling possession for large portions of matches.

This was evident in last season’s finals defeat to the Mariners. Adelaide had the majority of the football but hardly created any clear-cut chances en route to a 1-nil defeat that ended their season.

Against the Roar, Adelaide need to play with pace and attack as directly as possible. The Roar were often caught out against teams that attack quickly on the ground and this is what the Reds will need to do if they hope to cause the upset.

On paper, Adelaide possess the quality to snare the three points this afternoon. They did defeat Brisbane at Suncorp once last season and can do so again.

Bruce Djite, Michael Zullo, Sergio Cirio and Jeronimo Neumann will cause Brisbane plenty of problems if Adelaide are allowed to get into rhythm with the football.

In an entertaining contest, Adelaide have the potential to secure a good away win.
