Here is the runner by runner analysis of the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes Weight For Age. The race took place over 2000 metres and has a grand total of $400,000 in prize money.

1. Sacred Falls (12) $6
Began fast out of the wide barrier but went back and settled last, was still last turning one off the fence and followed Happy Trails into the race, peeled outside Happy trails at the 150-metre mark and took off, ran an eye catching fourth and looked in great shape. Will be hard to beat in the Cox Plate in two weeks’ time.

2. Side Glance (5) $21
Was one of the fastest out of the blocks and went forward to settle in the lead, set a good tempo and went out to a two-length lead, was joined by Dissident when turning and kept boxing on up the straight. Was overrun at the 200-metre mark and just hung onto third place. A solid run in a day that was kind to front runners.

3. Fawkner (4) $5
Jumped well and was quickly up on the speed and settled third on the rail, kept in striking distance throughout and stalked Dissident turning, was there ready to pounce outside of Dissident after the turn and laid down an excellent run up the straight, took the lead at the 200 metre mark, was challenged late by Criterion but won by a head in what was a great run and only second up! In great touch.

4. Happy Trails (6) $6.50
Jumped well and settled in behind the speed outside of Dear Demi, was first to make a move at the 600-metre mark, went four wide turning seemed to lack his normal turn of foot and couldn’t rein in the leaders but was a solid run in a day that wasn’t too kind to back markers and finished a respectable fifth.

5. Foreteller (10) $13
Was slow to begin and was three wide until finding a spot outside of Criterion, one off the rail about midfield.

Stalked Happy Trails on the turn and came really wide down the straight, never really looked a chance and it appeared that Boss eased up on him early, maybe has the Cox Plate in mind, finished eighth.

6. Sertorius (7) $41
Began ok and was ridden hard to settle behind the lead, one off the rail, started to fade at the turn and was only fair up the straight and finished ninth, is in the field for the Caulfield Cup in six days time.

7. CrackerJack King (11) $16
Was slow to begin and from the wide barrier found himself very wide near the rear, kept wide throughout the run and kept pushing forward, was still three wide at the turn outside of Fawkner and was left flat footed and pulled up down the straight to finish a long way back last. Worked too hard throughout the race.

8. Massiyn (2) $151
Was slow to begin, settled near the rear on the rail, loomed up behind Criterion on the turn but was only fair up the straight and finished 10th, only second up and will improve on that run.

9. Criterion (3) $15
Began ok and settled mid field on the rail, near last on the turn and still on the rail, came into the race behind Fawkner and peeled to his outside at the 150 metre mark and laid down a good run to challenge right down to the line, just missed by a head, great run and looks to be hitting peak fitness, big chance for the Cox Plate.

10. Dissident (3) $4
Was fast out of the gates and pushed forward to settle second outside of Side Glance, let Side Glance go out to a two length lead but quickly closed that margin approaching the turn, was joint leader around the bend but was swamped at the 200-metre mark and was poor to the line finishing sixth.

Last run may have taken more out of him than first though or maybe he can’t run out the 2000 metres, will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

11. Dear Demi (1) $8.50
Began well from the inside barrier and settled behind the speed on the rail, was still on the rail at the turn and was squeezed back a little by Fawkner, was still close at the 200-metre but run died a little Cassidy eased up on her as her chance to win was gone and she is in the field for next weeks Caulfield Cup, ran an ok seventh.

12. Kirramosa (9) $41
Was slow to begin and settled near the rear outside of Massiyn, near last turning and came was the widest runner, never a threat down the straight and finished 11th.
